Does anyone know the name of a bush found growing in Northern Va. in wood edges. It has branches that spread out and white flowers with petals that lay flat. i have seen then as large as 5 feet tall and 5 feet wide. they bloom in april.

I will try to get a photo this week. This is not a dogwood or mountain laurel. The flowers aren't in a ball shape as with a viburnum bush. The white flowers lay flat in clusters down the dark green leafed branches that spread outward.

I also have the bush in my yard. Do not know what it is. It is very large with clusters of wonderful flowers. The leaf has a line down the middle and lines on both sides of the leaf, which is not very large. I do not have the apparatus to send a picture. Bea

evergreenns,
There's an outside chance it could be 'Spirea' as well. Really, we need pictures!

Aunt Bea,
Your leaf description sounds much like the parallel veinature of a 'Dogwood'. How big are the flowers? When do they bloom? How many petals do they have? Are the leaves opposite each other on the branches?

The native Viburnum has flat flower corymbs (like Queen Anne's Lace) with large-petaled, sterile outer flowers and many smaller flowers inside the circle of the outer flowers
