I live in Central Florida and found this flower growing in the shade back in June. I have been trying to identify it since then to absolutely no avail. The closest I've come is Cranesbill, simply for the "sparkling" texture of the petals, but it's clearly not in that family. It was one single flower and grew low to the ground. I initially thought it might be fake because it almost looks like it's made of Styrofoam, but the flower was gone the next weekend.

Any help/suggestions would be very, very much appreciated. It's been driving me crazy for months so I finally broke down to ask.

I'm not a member but there's an image here: http://s72.photobucket.com/albums/i188/gastave/? action=view&current=IMG_1377.jpg

Camellia - Camellia japonica
Camellias are commonly grown as garden plants due to their gorgeous flowers and delicate scent.
These showy blooms are often some of the first of the season.
Camellias are slow growing evergreen shrubs with glossy, rounded leaves in temperate places,
like the Pacific Northwest. Blooms can start as early as January and continue until April.
These beautiful garden shrubs are a wonderful addition to any magical garden.
