Does anyone have an idea what this is and how to care for it? Is it an annual or perenial? It's beautiful and looks to be kin to the celosia family.

I think it's an astilbe, actually. Maybe Astilbe chinensis? I have a pic similar to this one in my gardening book, and while I don't have the book with me at the moment, something is telling me that's what it is. If so, I believe they are hardy perennials.

Never mind, I had it backwards!
Celosia argentea var plumosa is what's in my book, and looks quite similar to this.

I've looked at the pics but they all have only one spike or plume. This has several different spikes coming all around that central one. It's really weird but beautiful.

There are a few links I found to websites with pics similar to yours. Some are calling them wheat celosias or lago's spinach. Maybe that will help?

I agree these are celosia. Mine grow like weeds.
