Spring In Texas

i have lived in texas all my life, but this is my first spring in the country. the season has brought with it some beautiful blooming suprises! between the wildflowers and the perennials my grandma planted before leaving for alaska last summer, i have literally had fields of floral inspiration!

to mark the beginning of february, yellow daffodils popped up here and there. soon to follow were the green leaves of lilies (blooms still to come) and elephant ears. i also discovered one of the best treasures so far - a passion flower vine! i’ve transplanted it below a little garden bench in the front yard. with the months of march and april arrived a field of bluebonnets that have just now begun to seed. i plan to use the pictures i took of them for a painting very soon! purple iris buds began to bloom and became the perfect compliment to the rapidly growing passion flower no entangled in the bench. asparagus are now shooting up on the hill by the road along side a flower i have not yet identified. it has a huge pink bloom that smells like a rose and grows so large it causes its stem to droop and fall over (the picture is below if anyone has an idea as to what it is)!

each day i walk around the yard and surrounding property, i count the many blessings i have blooming around me - i can’t wait to see what suprises the summer with bring!
