Sure do look like buds in different stages of development. Don't look like seed structures at all.

Yep, Jack in the Pulpit seed structure. They do turn scarlet as they mature.
I think it's an evening primrose (Oenothera biennis). They have really lovely seed stalks that work well in dried arrangements.

Looks pretty stylized to me - I see a rose hip, button fern and (possibly) a cosmos nearly going to seed.
Be careful to enjoy the flower but remove the seed head, so this plant doesn't reseed. It can take over everything. It is very beautiful.
