Hello. I have a question about the palms that i bought. I have never been very good with plants as it seems that when i bring one home it usually dies. They look great in the store and i bring them home replant them and water correctly only to have them brown then die on me. In this case i bought 2 pygmy date palms to eventually plant in my new yard when we move in about a month, I live southeast of Phoenix, AZ so i believe i am in zone 9 or 9a. I am including photos of these palms as they are right now. Basically i replanted the palms in large pots using miracle grow potting soil and some liquid fertalizer to try to address their extra need for manganese and magnesium. I read that they dont need to be over saturated but like to be watered often. I check the soil by sticking my fingers in deep to check its dryness. Ive been watering every couple of days because they feel like they need it as the soil is somewhat dry. The problem is that no matter what i am doing they look worse and worse. They are getting more and more brown by the day and i see no new growth. Is there any suggestions for reversing this or should i give up at this point given what they look like? I would appreciate any and all replies. Thank you.

andrus7, welcome to the forum

I am sorry to see you didn't succeed in uploading the photo here since that would have helped a lot. Do you perhaps know the full name of the Palm this is about?

If you can, please retry uploading that photo and keep in mind that it shouldn't be larger than 500 pixels

I live in the northwest valley and have about eight Pigmy Date Palms. I have never fertilized them and they are extremely happy.

I am not an expert, but wonder if they are being over fed and that may be the reason for them to turn brown.
