In my garden I have a bush with little oval dark green leaves and when it flowers, it has beautiful purple/violet colured flowers about 6cms in diameter - the flower is made up of hunderds of long thin petals which give it a spikey look. It almost looks like a passion flower. The bush itself is quite sharp when it comes to pruning. The leaves do semi drop but dont ask me when it sheds and when it flowers - it hasnt flowered through the summer.

I does climb but not as much as a honeysuckle, it tends to bulk out a lot and does partially climb, and gives thick wall coverage it has very thick roots.

Can anyone help

Do you have a picture you could add? That would certainly help!
Maybe a Clematis? There are versions like Empress that somewhat resemble a passion flower. That's just a stab in the dark though, since it's hard to really identify without seeing it.
Maybe someone else will have an idea.
