- seed pods which are very hard with a red marble like seed inside that is extremely hard.

Thats what I thought, but the pods threw us off. My husband wasn't sure but, we all know how husbands can be. Thank you.

This is a Texas mountain laurel. It's popular landscape shrub in my area, South-central TX. I've even foun it growing wild in chalky areas scattered around sandy hills south of San Antonio.
