The world cut flower industry is a highly dynamic industry and

Indian companies have now become one among the leading

growers and exporters fvarious cut flowers including roses,

carnations, gerberas, etc., The origin of production, production

techniques, arkets and retailing arrangements are all

ndergoing continuous change, challenging the adaptive

capacity of the actors involved. In a slowly but steadily growing

world market new veloping country exporters are gaining

market share at the expense of existing roducers. These

producers try to stay ahead by raising productivity and through

diversification and innovation to keep their quality standards.

You may be right in saying that India is growing in the market but their quality in flowers is very poor, they still have along way to catch up to other well developed cut-flower industrie like Holland, Australia etc. I say this becasue here in the Melbourne flower market there are Rose imports from India, Kanya and South Africa, S.America(Columbia) and the roses that come from India, there stems are bearly 2cm thick and drupy and bearly 40-50 cm tall.
Local growen product is always better in terms of freshnes and quality.

Okay, I understand that India does mass production but what you have to keep in mind is that flowers such as Gerberas & Roses are a delicate flowers which gets bruised very eaisly therefore buyers are not going to buy poor quality damaged flowers, therefore your exporting marked is limitted by your quality. In the end of the day were are talking about flowers being exported by shippment which takes 1 week to get here and 1 week to pass customs which means it has bearly 3 days life left in them, who would buy that. Currently in Australia we are having the same problem with Singapore Orchids which last aropund 4 weeks but since they changed the transport from Plane to shipping they are half dead by the time they get here because it takes them 2 weeks to get here.
