Thx for the response-I love to garden and have many unusual plants in my yard. My sister said she say a photo in a book "The Best of Birds and blooms" which named it a Rose Turmeric. I have not yet seen the phot - but will look next time I am in Barnes & Noble.

Meanwhile, I've got a bloom from my turmeric plant(curcuma longa). The flowers look like that one, but they were white. http://learngardening.blogspot.com/2009/04/ turmericcurcuma-longa-flower.html

Garden girl has identified this plant correctly. It is called Curcuma zedoaria, or hidden ginger lilies. The plant is native to India and Indonesia and belongs to the Ginger family (Zingiberaceae).
