That looks like wisteria to me - and a very pretty one at that!

We just moved to a new house an inherited the previous owner's very established wisterias. They're quite vigorous and can be trained to climb and grow over arbors and up trellises and walls. Our previous owners had trained the original shoots to twine around each other and they've grown into amazing twisted "trunks" up the posts of our arbor.

I'm still learning about them myself, but from what I've read, wisterias need to be pruned back in winter and summer, which encourages flowering in the spring. I skipped a winter pruning because we had just moved in and I had no idea what to do, so I did some maintenance a few weeks ago, trimming out dead undergrowth and vines that were encroaching on our gutters.

I hope this helps. They're very pretty, and I hope yours smell as lovely as ours. Enjoy them!
